{"id":67,"date":"2015-07-13T15:49:59","date_gmt":"2015-07-13T15:49:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cehd.missouri.edu\/information-science-learning-technologies\/?page_id=67"},"modified":"2026-03-20T10:45:26","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T15:45:26","slug":"library-information-science","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/cehd.missouri.edu\/information-science-learning-technologies\/degrees-programs\/library-information-science\/","title":{"rendered":"Library and Information Science"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section id=\"overview\">\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-sm-9\">\n<h3>Mission<\/h3>\n<p>The Library and Information Science (LIS) Program contributes to the essential knowledge, skills, and values of librarianship and the information professions through research, education, and engagement.<\/p>\n<h3>Vision<\/h3>\n<p>The University of Missouri LIS program will produce 1) research that transforms library and information science and 2) students who are fully prepared to be leaders in information professions.<\/p>\n<p>Our online program offers the only <a href=\"https:\/\/cehd.missouri.edu\/information-science-learning-technologies\/academics\/\">Master&#8217;s Degree<\/a> in the state of Missouri that is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/cfapps\/lisdir\/listing.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">accredited<\/a> by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">American Library Association (ALA)<\/a>. A full-time student could graduate in as little as two years, and part-time students have up to eight years to graduate. Median earnings one year after graduation were $45,466.<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/collegescorecard.ed.gov\/data\/data-documentation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Data Documentation | College Scorecard<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In 2023, the LIS program had 100 graduates. Of those, 24 returned surveys, and of those 24, 19 were employed full-time. MU LIS graduates reported an average salary of $54,388. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.libraryjournal.com\/story\/challenges-opportunities-placements-and-salaries-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.libraryjournal.com\/story\/challenges-opportunities-placements-and-salaries-2024<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In 2022, the LIS program had 123 graduates. Of those, 14 returned surveys, and of those 14, 13 were employed full-time.
