{"id":15,"date":"2015-07-15T20:47:37","date_gmt":"2015-07-16T01:47:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cehd.missouri.edu\/learning-teaching-curriculum\/?page_id=15"},"modified":"2026-07-21T08:30:26","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T13:30:26","slug":"elementary-education","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/cehd.missouri.edu\/learning-teaching-curriculum\/degrees-programs\/elementary-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Elementary Education"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The elementary education program has options that lead to a\u00a0bachelor\u2019s degree in education in elementary\u00a0education (certification for grades one to six), a master\u2019s degree and two doctoral degree options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Course work focuses on development of the knowledge, skills and dispositions needed to support teaching and learning in a variety of diverse settings and includes elementary methods courses designed to support elementary school teaching and learning in all subject areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bachelor\u2019s degree culminates with the Senior Year On-Site Program (SYOSP), a unique yearlong internship that gives interns the opportunity to experience all facets of the teaching profession. The SYOSP is designed to immerse the interns in the life and culture of a school community and begins with teacher back-to-school meetings and assisting with classroom setup. Interns are regarded as full-time members of the school faculty and participate in all school events and experiences such as teacher workdays, professional learning communities and data team meetings. Students spend a minimum of three full days per week in the schools during the first semester while also completing a full course load that complements the internship. During the second semester, the internship extends to five full days in a single classroom where the SYOSP intern completes the student teaching experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our mission is to prepare reflective professionals who use research-based instructional strategies to better the learning of all students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Degrees<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Degrees are in <strong>learning, teaching and curriculum<\/strong> with an emphasis in <strong>elementary education<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/cehd.missouri.edu\/degrees-programs\/undergraduate-degrees\/elementary-education\/\">Bachelor of science in education (BS Ed)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/cehd.missouri.edu\/degree\/elementary-education-med\/\">Master of education (MEd)<\/a>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This degree is also possible through the <a href=\"https:\/\/cehd.missouri.edu\/early-career-scholars-program\/\">MPER Early Career Scholars Program.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/cehd.missouri.edu\/degree\/elementary-education-edd\/\">Doctor of education (EdD)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/cehd.missouri.edu\/degree\/english-education-phd\/\">Doctor of philosophy (PhD)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The elementary education program has options that lead to a\u00a0bachelor\u2019s degree in education in elementary\u00a0education (certification for grades one to six), a master\u2019s degree and two doctoral degree options.
