Dr. Gabrielle Malfatti, Teaching Professor, serves as Director of Global Engagement and Director of the Graduate Certificate in Global Education and Leadership.

Dr. Malfatti leads efforts to infuse global mindedness into the ethos of the college and all aspects of educator preparation through education abroad, international student and scholar support, curriculum development and international partnerships. Her research and practice focus on international academic relations; international education leadership; globally minded educator preparation, and intercultural communication and adaptation. She is responsible for the college’s education abroad offerings, outreach to international students and scholars and fostering of the college’s collaborative agreements with universities and k-12 schools abroad.

Dr. Malfatti has been recognized for her scholarship and practice with the Dan Cockrell Ed.D State-wide Dissertation of the Year Award in 2009, for Desegregation and its impact on institutional culture at a Historically Black University; the NAFSA Region IV 2014 “Most Innovative International Initiative Award” for the Mizzou Ed Teach Abroad program;  the Association of North America Higher Education International (ANAHEI)’s Patrick J. Moreo Global Education Leadership Award in 2019 and the MU International Engagement Award in 2021. Dr. Malfatti is the grantee of two Fulbright International Education Administrators grants for programs in India in 2016, and Taiwan in 2023. She currently serves on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Global Education and Research, and Frontiers. She is the editor of the 2021 volume, People-Centered Approaches Toward the Internationalization of Higher Education. Dr. Malfatti is an Advisory Board Member of Vidyashilp Academy and Vidyashilp University in Bangalore, India.
