For 31 years, Melissa taught at Blue Springs High School as a Cross-Categorical Special Education Teacher, case-managing dozens of students each school year to ensure they received individualized learning experiences. During her time at Blue Springs, she served as Special Education Department chair for over a decade, supporting staff and cross-department collaboration to enhance learning outcomes for special education students in regular education classrooms. Despite retiring from teaching at the end of the 2026 school year, Melissa is excited to continue supporting the professional development of high school students and providing meaningful outcomes through Pre-ETS services.

Melissa holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Webster University and a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Central Missouri. When she isn’t teaching, Melissa often spends time with family and friends, baking, reading, and working out. 

Melissa serves students in the following schools in the Kansas City School District:  East High, Central Academy of Excellence, Lincoln College Prep, Northeast High, Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts, and Southeast High.

She also serves Academie Lafayette, Allen Village, Crossroads Preparatory Academy, DeLaSalle Education Center, Ewing Marion Kauffman, Frontier STEM High, Guadalupe Center (Alta Vista), Hogan Preparatory Academy, KIPP Endeavor Academy, KVC Academy – KC, KVC Niles Prep, Milestone Academy Functional Skills, and University Academy.
