Special Education Compliance

Heart of Missouri’s Special Education Compliance Consultant assists local districts with professional development for both special education teachers and regular education teachers. The goal is to understand and effectively apply state and federal regulations in Local Education Agencies (LEA) implementing Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to improve students’ academic and post-secondary performance.

Scheduled training and workshops on various topics are offered and open to special and general educators, administrators, and others as indicated in My Learning Plan. At the request of the LEA, site-based consultations, technical assistance, coaching, and workshops focusing on Special Education regulations, legislation, legal obligations, and process coordination are available.

Special Education Improvement

At the Heart of Missouri RPDC, the special education improvement consultant supports local districts by providing effective research-based training in order to improve the academic performance and post-secondary outcomes of all students, but especially those with disabilities, to graduate college and career ready. Professional development can be provided to both special education teachers and regular education teachers with the emphasis for improving students’ academic and post-secondary performance as required by state and federal law. Our center provides training and workshops on a regional level at the RPDC as well as in-district upon request. Additionally, the special education improvement consultant collaborates with other programs in the RPDC to meet the needs of districts as they serve students with disabilities.
