The online educator graduate certificate program at the MU School of Information Science & Learning Technologies (SISLT) is the latest to receive an endorsement from the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT).
According to the association, SISLT is one of only four programs to be granted endorsements.
“It is an honor to receive an endorsement from a prestigious organization that represents the educational technologies discipline,” said Dr. Joi Moore, professor and director of SISLT. “Our certificate is in its fourth year and we’re excited about its continued growth.”
AECT is a professional association of thousands of educators and others whose activities are directed toward improving instruction through technology. Their members carry out a wide range of responsibilities in the study, planning, application, and production of communications media for instruction.
The Online Educator Graduate Certificate program helps students develop the knowledge and skills in eLearning environments. It prepares graduates for jobs in an expanding field where online education is used in schools, universities, industry, health care, museums and other learning settings.
“Since Fall 2012, when the Certificate program was first offered, we have worked with many students from a wide variety of backgrounds,” said Jane Howland, professor and learning technologies program coordinator, who led the certificate development and endorsement application efforts. “It is a pleasure to work with such a diverse population and we are pleased to have our program recognized by AECT.”
SISLT’s certificate program curriculum consists of 12 graduate credit hours that may be transferred into the school’s Master of Education or Education Specialist programs. All credit hours apply toward any of the three focus areas — Online Educator (OE), Technology in Schools (TiS), or Learning Systems Design & Development (LSDD).
MU SISLT is a member of the iSchools, an international consortium of information schools in higher education dedicated to advancing the information field in the 21st century.
