Undergraduate Financial Assistance

Student success means ensuring all College of Education & Human Development students have access to world-class learning opportunities, in and out of the classroom, and can thrive on our campus. We are committed to supporting students through every step of their Mizzou journey. Helping our students graduate with as little debt as possible is a top priority.

Outlined below, you will find several options to help support you financially on your journey. Along the way, should you find yourself experiencing temporary resource shortages, registration holds, or food insecurity, please contact Dr. Jennifer Fellabaum-Toston, Senior Associate Dean for Student Success and Academic Affairs, or your academic advisor.

Federal Student Aid

Four out of five Mizzou students receive some form of financial aid. Even if you think you are not eligible, you might be. Be sure to explore all of your options. Start by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can read more about federal aid eligibility on the MU Student Financial Aid website.

Scholarships

Generous donors have established numerous endowed scholarship funds to benefit College of Education & Human Development undergraduate students. Undergraduate scholarship awards typically range from $1,000 to $3,000 annually.

Eligibility

Scholarships are education funds that do not have to be repaid. Eligibility is based on a review of the following factors:

  • Merit (academic achievement, skills, leadership qualities, community service, etc.)
  • Need (financial need, hardship, etc.)
  • Special Characteristics (ethnicity, place of residence, intended major, etc.)

To be considered for College of Education & Human Development undergraduate scholarships, log in to ScholarshipUniverse, answer a series of matching questions, and complete the MU College of Education & Human Development Undergraduate Scholarship Application. Be sure to review the tips below.

Applying for Scholarships

Many scholarships are based on financial need as well as merit or other special characteristics. Financial need is determined by the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form (available December 1 – MU’s FAFSA code is 002516).

You must complete the FAFSA and the MU College of Education & Human Development Undergraduate Scholarship Application in ScholarshipUniverse annually by the Mizzou priority deadlines to be considered for College of Education & Human Development scholarships and grants.

Tips

  • If you are an incoming freshmen or first-time college student, you will access ScholarshipUniverse via your Application Status Page after you submit your application for admission.
  • Answer as many of the ScholarshipUniverse matching questions as you can.
  • Searching for “MU Financial Aid General Scholarship Application” and “MU College of Education & Human Development Undergraduate Scholarship Application” is a shortcut to filling out applications that qualify you for hundreds of Mizzou scholarships. Do these first.
  • When given a chance to share information about yourself, please do. Especially important:
    • Education and Career Goals
    • How a scholarship would help achieve those goals.
    • Work, volunteer experience, community service, leadership experience
    • Barriers or challenges
  • Complete individual applications – both internal and external – after completing the “MU College of Education & Human Development Undergraduate Scholarship Application” and the “MU Financial Aid General Scholarship Application.”
  • Certain scholarships require Missouri residency – information on how to establish Missouri residency can be found via the MU Office of the University Registrar.

Please Note

If a College of Education & Human Development scholarship recipient changes enrollment to another university or another college within MU, the scholarship will be rescinded. All scholarships, grants, and financial resources you receive are subject to being reduced if the combined total reaches your maximum Cost of Attendance. Dorsey Leadership Academy

Named in honor of Associate Professor of Higher Education, Dr. Carolyn Ann Dorsey, the Dorsey Leadership Academy is designed to foster more inclusive, equitable learning environments and professional fields.  Members of Dorsey Leadership Academy are invited to apply for an annual scholarship award package ranging from $4,000 – $8,000, renewable for an additional three years*. Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant (TEACH Grant)

The Federal Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant is awarded through the Office of Student Financial Aid to students who are completing, or intend to complete, coursework to begin a career in teaching and who agree to serve for a minimum of four years as a full-time, highly-qualified, high-need field teacher in a low-income school.

Students awarded the TEACH Grant are required to complete four years of qualified teaching service within eight years of completing their course of study for which the TEACH Grant was received. Failure to meet this or any other requirement of the TEACH Grant will result in the grant converting into a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, with interest accrued and capitalized from the date of original grant disbursement.

Undergraduate Student Eligibility

A cumulative MU GPA of at least 3.25 is required. If a cumulative MU GPA does not exist yet, testing above the 75th percentile on a nationally-recognized admissions test (ACT or SAT) is acceptable.
