College of Education & Human Development rises in U.S. News graduate education rankings

The University of Missouri College of Education & Human Development is ranked among the nation’s top graduate education programs, according to the 2026 Best Graduate Schools rankings released by U.S. News & World Report.
The college ranked No. 26 overall, moving up from No. 31 last year, and No. 17 among public graduate education programs, reflecting continued momentum across its academic, research and outreach efforts.
The college also remains the No. 1 college of education and human development in Missouri, reflecting its role as the state’s flagship and a member of the Association of American Universities.
The rankings also highlight the college’s strength in research. Among public universities, the college is No. 13 in funded research, with $46.8 million in research expenditures. Faculty productivity also remains strong, with an average of $578,000 in research dollars per faculty member. That level of investment places Mizzou fourth among Southeastern Conference institutions, underscoring its national competitiveness in education research.
In specialty areas, the college’s special education program ranked No. 14 in the nation, reinforcing its longstanding leadership in preparing educators and advancing research that supports students with diverse learning needs.
“These rankings reflect the dedication of our faculty, staff and students who are committed to advancing education through research, teaching and service,” said Dean Kui Xie. “We are proud to see that work recognized at the national level, and we remain focused on preparing leaders who will make a meaningful difference in Missouri and beyond.”
Together, these rankings reflect a college working across disciplines to prepare professionals, generate new knowledge and strengthen the systems that support people and communities.
