Dr. Mengying Xue is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Missouri in the Department of Learning, Teaching & Curriculum within the College of Education and Human Development. Her research focuses on multimodal literacy and critical literacy, emphasizing the integration of diverse media and visual texts to foster critical thinking, creativity, and social commentary in young learners. Dr. Xue’s work also explores the formation of teacher and student identities through multimodal literacy practices and culturally responsive teaching in both formal and informal K-5 educational contexts.

Additionally, Dr. Xue has a strong interest in children’s literature and multimodal content analysis. She explores how different types of picture books can enhance young learners’ social commentary and cultural identities, revealing the transformative potential of these resources in creating inclusive and equitable learning environments.
