Jeff Healy

  • Instructional Specialist

Jeff Healy has been an Instructional Specialist with Mizzou Academy since 2018. After spending several post-college years in various sales and advertising positions, he felt a need to do something more meaningful and impactful. Jeff got his start in education with an opportunity to teach an American high school program in Florianopolis, Brazil in 2011, where he developed a passion for working with English language learners and started his relationship with Mizzou Academy. As a language learner himself (Portuguese), he immediately empathized with the challenges of his English learner students and found unique ways to connect with them. While in Brazil, Jeff also started a bilingual sports camp he called English in Play. At this Saturday morning camp, children learned the fundamentals of baseball and American football in an English setting. Jeff found that providing an opportunity for students to use English outside of a classroom allowed English learners to build confidence while communicating in a more natural and comfortable environment. This worked especially well for students who were not as academically engaged in the classroom.

As an Instructional Specialist, Jeff leverages his understanding of the Portuguese language with his unique experience as a classroom teacher to provide meaningful and encouraging feedback to Mizzou Academy students. Jeff currently works with the Speech & Debate and the Middle School team.

Jeff and his wife have four children and have spent several years living in both the United States and Brazil. A steady mix of English and Portuguese can be heard echoing throughout their home. Jeff enjoys playing and watching sports, spending time with his family, and traveling and exploring new landscapes.
