Science Education (MEd)

The MU Master’s Program in Science Education is intended for students who have a BA or BS in a science field and want to become middle or secondary classroom teachers by:
- Enhancing their knowledge and skills about science teaching and learning
- Inquiring into and improving their practice
- Building leadership skills in science education

Degree Requirements
The MEd with Science Education Certification program requires a minimum of 30 graduate hours beyond the Bachelor’s (15 hours at the 8000 or 9000 level), with the option to include 12 to 15 additional graduate/undergraduate hours of coursework required for certification.

Admission Requirements
You must meet two sets of minimum qualifications in order to be considered for admission:
A committee of faculty members reviews your application’s credentials. You are not guaranteed admission even if you meet the minimum qualifications.
How to Apply
In addition to completing the Graduate Studies application, you must submit the following materials to the Department of Learning, Teaching and Curriculum:
- Unofficial transcript
- Statement of Purpose
- Two letters of recommendation; three letters, if your undergraduate GPA (last 60 hours) is below a 3.0.
- TOEFL scores (international students only)
Because requirements vary, you must refer to a degree program’s graduate admission page to learn about specific admission criteria, application deadlines, eligibility and application process. Your application materials will be reviewed by both the Office of Graduate Studies and the degree program to which you’ve applied before official admission to the University of Missouri.
