The Honors program was created to produce Teacher Scholars, Researchers and Leaders.  The program consists of courses over three semesters starting the in the spring of the sophomore year.  In the junior year students have the unique opportunity to work with a College of Education & Human Development faculty member on original education research.  

The courses included in the program are:

• Special Readings in Education.  The course is designed as a Socratic seminar where discussions focus around readings in Philosophy of Education, History of Education, comparisons of international education systems, technology in education, diversity in education and controversial hot topics in education.
• Research Seminar.  In this course students learn about the various types of research conducted in the education setting including issues of quality and ethics in research.  The course also acts as a support for their work conducted with the various professors across the College that mentor an undergraduate researcher.
• Leadership Seminar.  This course begins the process of developing leadership qualities. The course invites a number of exemplary leaders from a variety of fields to discuss the development of leadership, managing difficult situations, the ethics of leadership, different leadership styles and how personalities may influence leadership approaches.
• Research Lab.  This is a variable credit course where the student works directly with a number of faculty across the College engaging in original education research across a number of topics that include; special education, school psychology, school counseling, educational psychology, learning technologies, library sciences, ELL, educational policy, various subject areas of education, among others. The course is a two sequence course across the fall and spring semesters and concludes with a presentation of the research, in poster format, at the Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievements Forum held every spring on campus by the Office of Undergraduate Research. Students are selected for the program starting in late fall of their sophomore year and must maintain a 3.5 GPA at graduation to receive the distinction of becoming a University of Missouri, College of Education & Human Development Honors graduate.
