For all enrollments initiated after August 1, 2022, please see our updated drop policy below.

Drop Policy

Students should notify Mizzou Academy straightaway they need to drop a course. Students have specific time periods when they are eligible to withdraw from Mizzou Academy courses:

Drops Before the Midterm: W or AW

  • If a student withdraws from a course before they have taken the midterm, they will receive a W for withdrawal. Their GPA will not be affected by this decision.
  • A student may receive an AW for administrative withdrawal if their course has expired before they reached the midterm exam, and we have not heard from them in three months.

Drops After the Midterm: WF or AFW

  • If a student withdraws from a course after the midterm has been taken, they will receive a WF for withdrawal fail. Their GPA will reflect a failing grade in the course.
  • A student may receive an AWF for administrative withdrawal fail if their course has expired after they completed the midterm, but did not complete the course, and we have not heard from them in three months.

Course Retakes

For any of these situations, a student may recover a withdrawal grade by retaking the course and passing. Their AW, W, AWF, or WF becomes an R with no effect on their GPA to indicate that the course grade was replaced. The transcript will reflect both the R and the grade for the new course.

For withdrawals and course retakes, please work with Mizzou Academy for payment information and enrollment processes.

In an effort to mitigate the need to drop courses, students are encouraged to preview the syllabus of their course to ensure they are prepared for the nature and rigor of the work.

Tuition Credit

Upon the course drop date, tuition payment will be credited to the student’s account (in the amount according to the schedule above) and less any other fees incurred. Please note $10 is deducted from the drop credit for every graded item.

Spending Tuition Credit

Students may use the balance on their account towards other enrollments or fees as assessed. Tuition credit cannot be used towards the purchase of textbooks. Students must get approval for the new course enrollment using the same process as they did for the original enrollment.

Refunding Account Balance Credits

Student accounts with credit balances (unused funds) will be automatically refunded the next upcoming refund date, with processing occurring in March, June, and October. Students may request a refund of the account balance prior to the next cycle by sending an email request to mizzouacademy@missouri.edu. Please include the student’s first and last name and date of birth in the request. Refunds are issued in the payment form they were received and to the original payer.
