The University of Missouri College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) has selected its first cohort of Dean’s Faculty Fellows, launching a new leadership development initiative designed to engage faculty in advancing the college’s strategic priorities. 

When new faculty members begin their academic careers, they face more than the challenge of launching a research agenda. They must learn to navigate the complexities of academic life, establish professional networks and identify opportunities to grow their scholarship and influence. At the University of Missouri College of Education and Human Development (CEHD), the Early Scholars Field Mentoring Program is helping new faculty do exactly that.

Dr. Sam von Gillern, an assistant professor of literacy education in the Department of Learning, Teaching and Curriculum for the College of Education & Human Development, has been selected for the highly competitive Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program, earning an opportunity to spend four months at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and the National Center for Artificial Intelligence (CENIA) in Santiago.

From rural elementary classrooms to suburban secondary schools, a growing partnership between the University of Missouri and school districts across the state is helping strengthen Missouri’s future teacher workforce — one mentor relationship at a time.  

Recent graduate Taylor DeMint was recognized with the Missouri Teacher Leader of Tomorrow Award for her dedication to students, leadership in the classroom and commitment to serving the community that helped shape her.

High-fives and hard work defined Missouri’s first Pre-ETS Statewide Job Olympics, where 156 students showcased the workplace skills they have built all year. The event celebrated confidence, growth and the path to future careers as students demonstrated their abilities and cheered each other on.

From tutoring first graders to leading his own classroom, Thomas Skiendziel’s Mizzou experience shaped him into a confident future educator. Now a graduating senior, he’s ready to bring his passion for learning to a third‑grade classroom.

Rushing, a senior in the University of Missouri College of Education & Human Development, is completing her elementary student‑teaching internship in a fourth‑grade classroom at Madison Crossing Elementary School in Mississippi.
