Are you an MU student who is looking to volunteer or fulfill MU Serves hours? Or are you a pre-service teacher needing field experience? Well the Achieve Program could be a perfect fit for you!

The Achieve Program was developed by Dr. Whitney located in the College of Education at Mizzou. Its goal is to pair talented college students with elementary and middle school students who are struggling academically. Currently, the Achieve Program is located at Russell BLVD. Elementary, and Fairview Elementary.

As an Achieve Program tutor, you will be asked to tutor one elementary or middle school student two times a week for one hour. By meeting twice a week, you will have an opportunity to bond, mentor and build a professional relationship with your student. This program also requires commitment for one academic school year. Your consistency as a tutor has been shown to help students thrive.

In addition to building a professional relationship with your student, you will be able to build professional relationships and network at the school you are assigned. You will also be assigned a host teacher. This host teacher will be your main contact and resource at the school. This mentorship from a professional in the field of education is a great opportunity for those who are interested in education or plan to work with others.

Even if you have no experience tutoring students, the Achieve Program will set you up for success. Modules regarding professionalism and tutoring strategies have been developed so you can feel comfortable in your role as a tutor.
